Spring is an exciting time in Seattle as a parent, because it means we are finally getting ready for outdoor play! One of the best “learn through play” activities of the spring season is gardening. Your kids experience the sensory aspects of the dirt, rocks and seeds. They gain fine motor and coordination skills through digging, watering, poking holes and filling. And, they gain patience and sequencing with the flow of the task. If you’ve forgotten what it’s like to open the back door and let your kiddos run free, here are some fun spring planting ideas to get you started!
Sweet Pea Hideout
Have you seen this amazing sugar pea vine hideout? If you have some extra space in your yard, position about 10 – 12 gardening poles in a circle and tie them together at the top with some twine to form a cone. Plant your choice of blossoming vines around the base and watch them cover your fort throughout the spring and summer!
