After stepping on the ten millionth block, getting rid of my kid’s toys seems like a great idea. If toys are taking over your house, you might be interested in hearing tips on decluttering with kids from Marie Kondo, bestselling author of “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up”. A few top ones are
- Tidy by item type not by room (i.e. clothes, then books, documents and miscellaneous items)
- Don’t force kids to give something up, it will backfire
- Choose what to keep instead of what to give away- keeping things positive
After you’ve decluttered, a way to keep the toy box manageable may be to rent instead of buy. A few companies are offering toy rental services with varying prices and time schedules. Check out www.pley.com for an example. Renting can keep things interesting with fresh toys while possibly saving you money in the long run.
Or if renting isn’t appealing for you, take a peek at these neat kid centric subscription boxes. Something new and fun for your little one each month.
For some free fun, mix it up by checking out a museum pass from the public library. Offered up every day at 9pm and you can reserve based on venue or date.
