Now that you have that fabulous song from Queen stuck in your head, let’s talk about riding bikes with your kids. May is national bike month which is a great time to get out on two wheels. Despite its hills and rain, Seattle is a fairly bike friendly city with lots of resources for families and kids.

If you’re new to biking or just not sure where to start, check out the Cascade Bicycle Club site for all kinds of local information about learning to ride, cycling safety and even bike camps and demonstrations for kids.

Getting all the right bike gear may seem overwhelming and expensive but many local organizations provide free helmets and fittings so you can be sure your kids are safe. Adult bikes and bike trailers can be rented at several local bike shops. For the mechanically inclined kid, check out  Bike Works, a local nonprofit that teaches bike maintenance and gives kids a chance to refurbish and keep a bike.

Wondering where to ride? For your beginners check out this list of spots to ride. For a longer family ride, try out these paved trails. Happy riding!
