by Jackie (Toddlers Parent and serial troll spotter)
Typically, I look to parenting blogs for a source of laughter, the feeling of community and a place to see the comment trolls. I love reading a good nonsensical argument between complete strangers about how to feed your child, how to get your kid to sleep and how to best prepare your preschooler for college.
Here are a few blogs where I like to drown my sorrows… I mean, learn stuff about parenting…?
Scary Mommy: Some serious trolling goes on here. But, there are also some pretty amazing articles that touch on every subject imaginable.
The Huffington Post – Parenting: A recent post “Barbie has Noble Purpose“… I’m scared to even click on it.
Mommy Shorts: A hilarious NYC working mom with two adorable children. She puts her life out there for all to see and is totally relatable. I bought her book, not because I actually want to read it, but because I think she deserves to be paid back for the energy and awesomeness she brings to the table.
Baby Sideburns: Kind of crass but generally on-point. I did not buy her book…
That Dad Blog: This guy has 6 kids, one of which has down syndrome (which he posts pictures of him flying all over the place… no idea how he does that magic). His latest post is about a real life elf on the shelf that puts everyone to shame.
Here are some awesome blogs/websites to learn about deals, steals and new products.
Baby Guy Gear Guide: This guy is awesome. No kids, but an uncle to 5! He was originally a car seat salesman at buybuybaby and started his own blog that turned into a baby gear business. He travels the country testing new products, giving talks about gear and generally spreading cheer.
Thrifty Littles: LOCAL MOM ALERT. Cat is a friend of a friend and has an awesome blog about deals and products. She has kids the same age as mine (with one more on the way!).
Stroller Traffic: Shameless plug here… I am a scout for StrollerTraffic. Run by women focusing on select cities around the country and a national resource for all things baby/toddler product. Also, they have some pretty amazing giveaways.
OK, it’s not all about the giggles, trolls and ways to spend money. There are actually legitimate parenting blogs that our fearless parent educator, Emily, sent to me to provide as a helpful resource.
Aha! Parenting: a true one-stop-shop. They have books, videos and separate their tips by age and issue by Dr. Laura Markham, a clinical psychologist and mother.
Janet Lansbury: a model/actress turned parenting guru? Why not?! Pretty impressive to go from a fast paced Hollywood lifestyle to a knowledgeable parent educator. I’m definitely delving more into this blog ASAP.
Hand in Hand Parenting: All about strengthening the parent-child connection. Isn’t this why we are all in coop?
I’m sure there are many many more resources out there. Maybe I should start a blog about other people’s blogs…
